The benefits of silk for your hair

Weird picture right? Not the first thing you imagine when thinking about premium Mulberry silk (which is the only kind we mess with around here)!

For those that may not know, this is how all of our beautiful Mulberry silk hair accessories start out - as cocoons created by the humble silkworm (the Bombyx mori Linnaeus, if you want to get a bit fancy with it).

Silk dates back thousands of years, and still to this day is considered to be one of the most valuable, luxurious fabrics in the world.

Fun fact: Did you know, "mulberry silk" comes from cocoons of a specific species of silkworm whose diet consists of leaves from the Mulberry tree. The luxurious threads they produce are finer, smoother and more consistently coloured than any other. They are also super strong! (Psst - by the way ALL of our products are made from 100% pure Mulberry silk).

But I digress - you came here to find out why silk a fantastic material for your precious crown right? Well, here are a few of the benefits:

  • Friction! Or rather lack of it. Because of it's super smooth texture and unique protein structure, when it rubs against your hair, it won't cause any damage or friction. No frizzy hair or split ends here!
  • It's hypoallergenic - so doesn't attract dust mites and is a natural fungal repellant
  • Silk retains your hair's natural moisture, rather than draw it away like other fabrics such as cotton. So if you love your hair, no more sock hacks or dressing gown ties please!
  • It feels bloomin' lovely!

And you won't be surprised to find out that all our silk accessories, including our Flawless Curl Kits are made with only the finest quality silk that there is!
